Being in this class has taught me a lot about technology I didn’t know existed. I have come to realize that Google is so much more then just a search engine. The program being used now is “Google Reader” which is made to help you see updates on websites you visit everyday but instead of going to all of them, all the updates will come to one location for your convince. Personally I don’t go to a lot of websites that have the RSS updates but while I was adding them to my Google Reader account I realized I do occasionally and don’t realize it.
Using the actual Google Reader site was very easy, unlike other websites, the help application was very helpful and clear. I started off by watching the tour provided and then started adding sites. I added CNN by clicking the “Add a subscription” button and just pasting the link into it. You can also use the directory Google provides for you to look up sites that have the RSS updates. The last way you can find subscriptions is go to a website, click “Edit” then “Find In This Page” and type in words like subscription or RRS and if those words exist on the page the application will find them and you will know it is okay to add to your Google Reader account.
For someone who did not know this existed I find it very useful. I have been using it for about a week now and it is fun to check and see what’s going on with your favourite sites and very convent. I believe I will still use this in the future and hopefully as time goes on I will find more websites to add. The best thing I like about this program is it is very organized, I love that everything is easy to find and read. I will try and keep up to date with my new Google Reader account and tell more people about it because it’s very useful to people of all ages.
